Board Certification and Training
Alex Strauss, M.D. is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) in both Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, with additional training in sports psychiatry. Importantly, he brings a comprehensive background that combines medical expertise with a patient-centered approach.
Medical Education
Dr. Strauss received his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. Following medical school, he pursued rigorous residency and fellowship training at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC), part of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, consistently ranked as a top psychiatry hospital by U.S. News & World Report.
Leadership and Academic Roles
During his time at WPIC, Dr. Strauss served as chief resident for education and as chair of the academic, administrative, and clinical educator track. Through these roles, he gained not only advanced clinical skills but also valuable leadership and teaching experience.
Clinical Expertise
Throughout his career, Dr. Strauss has received comprehensive training in the assessment and treatment of psychiatric illness across all age groups. In addition, he has developed expertise in the combined use of psychiatric medication and psychotherapeutic techniques, ensuring that each patient receives an individualized, evidence-based treatment plan.
Professional Roles
After his training, Dr. Strauss became a partner at Centra, P.C. in Marlton, New Jersey and later founded Eastern Psychiatric, LLC in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, where he continues his commitment to providing compassionate, expert care. Furthermore, he serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and as the Consulting Sports Psychiatrist for Temple University Athletics in Philadelphia.
Special Interests
In addition to general psychiatry, Dr. Strauss has a special interest in sports psychiatry, particularly the treatment of concussion, traumatic brain injury, and psychiatric illness in athletes. This area of expertise allows him to address not only mental health challenges but also the unique performance, resilience, and recovery needs of athletes.
