Concussions in Young Athletes: More Than a Sports Injury

Concussions are often thought of as “mild” head injuries, but for teens and young athletes they can have serious emotional, behavioral, and academic consequences. Beyond headaches or dizziness, many develop irritability, sadness, anxiety, trouble sleeping, difficulty focusing, or even changes in personality. Some recover quickly, but others face post-concussion syndrome, where symptoms last for months and affect school, sports, and relationships.

Early evaluation and a thoughtful, individualized treatment plan—including rest, therapy, and medical management—can make a major difference in recovery.
